Having a company film made: how to prepare

A company film is more than a short video about your business. Done well, it builds trust with customers and new colleagues. The preparation largely determines how good the result will be. These are the questions to go through with your team before contacting a video producer.
Step 1: What is the goal?
Do you want more customers, new colleagues, a stronger brand or a better explanation of what you do? The goal determines the story, the length and the tone.
Step 2: Who is the film for?
A film for potential customers looks different from a film for job applicants. Describe your audience as concretely as possible: who watches, where and with what question?
Step 3: What story do you tell?
Think of the people, the way of working and what sets you apart. A film with real people and real places often works better than a general list of services.
Step 4: Where will the film be shown?
Website, social media, trade show or a recruitment campaign call for different formats and lengths. Mention this in advance so it can be taken into account while filming and editing.
Step 5: What determines the price?
Every film is different. These things usually determine the price:
- the number of shooting days and locations;
- the crew and equipment needed;
- whether drone or FPV footage is needed;
- how much editing, music and finishing the film requires;
- which formats you need the film in.
So ask for a proposal based on your goal instead of a ready-made amount per minute.
Step 6: What should you prepare yourself?
Make sure the right people and locations are available on the shooting day and that there is one contact person. Also say what must not be shown on camera, for example for privacy-sensitive information.
